We are very pleased to announce today that DCM has acquired an option to purchase a vacant lot for our new cooperatively owned grocery store near the Farmers’ Market, on the southwest corner of Mangum Street and Broadway Street. You can view the location on a Google Map here.

Owners received an email today, with a link to a survey where they can send us their thoughts and feedback about the location. If you are not currently an owner, and would like to participate in the survey, you can join online here at the website and be included in the survey.

Beyond the owner survey, our plans include working with the city on their community development plan for the surrounding area and determining how the site will meet city requirements. Additionally, we will be working with neighborhood churches, community groups and local leaders.

And of course, we must find the means to pay for it. This is our biggest task. Board member Stephen Hren, who will be heading up the capital campaign, has stated that he’s pleased to have the site under control so that the market can move to the financing phase. According to Hren, “Now we have to raise the money to build this store. We’ll be looking to our owners, banks and other funders to help us make this dream a reality.”
