This website is about Durham's newest cooperative grocery mart, Durham Central Market. We aim to locate the market in the Central Park District of Durham but we need your help now! We are currently finalizing our business plan, we have not selected a location yet, however our founding owner drive is moving along steadily. Our goal is to sell 300 founding owner shares by the end of October. To date we have sold roughly 90-100 founding owner shares. If you haven't purchased your share, please consider doing so today. We plan for the money from this founding owner drive to both pay for a market analysis and fuel the hiring of a project manager who will finalize the location of the store and arrange for opening the doors.

Meanwhile, volunteers are busy with committee work: Membership, Finance, IT and Location. I can report at this time that all the committees continue to work hard to get the market open. The finance committee has our banking and bookkeeping in order, the location committee continues to scout locations and meet with property owners/developers, our IT committee developed our website, designed our marketing materials and is setting up a central database to be home to all our important information and the membership committee continues to develop ways to sell ownership shares. It is a lot of work! All of us are volunteers and I feel that I can speak for the lot of us, that things are going well!

How can you help? Please consider buying your founding owner share today. With your share you will receive a nifty founding owner t-shirt (only available during this drive--not to be repeated!) and an ownership number in the low hundreds! Once you have purchased your founding owner share, consider helping out in other ways: Tell All Your Friends! There are also other possible ways to help with the market. Last weekend we opened a booth at the Durham Farmers Market where we handed out brochures. Our brochure contains information about the market as well as an owner purchase form. Look for our booth on Saturdays on the lawn next to the Durham Farmers Market.
