Welcome! Durham Central Market is a new neighborhood cooperative grocery working to open a store located near the downtown area (Read more about our location). Durham Central Market follows the owner/member model of local co-op groceries like Weaver Street Market in Carrboro and Chatham Marketplace in Pittsboro, but with a distinctively Durham flavor. If you're not an owner, now is a great time to become one! Building a full-service grocery store is a big project, and we need your help to get the doors open. We're looking for investors who want to keep their money local and help get a true community organization off the ground, while still getting a return on their investment. If you're already an owner and are interested in participating in this great opportunity, you can find out more or send us questions about becoming an investor.
Our goal for the store is to offer high quality, mostly local food and other products, to reinvest profits back into the community, to practice sustainability, and to foster a respectful, professional workplace. We invite you to learn more about the ideas and the planning that has gone into the development of the Durham Central Market cooperative. As a grocery store dedicated to serving Durham and built by Durham, Durham Central Market got to this point through the great work of volunteers from local Durham neighborhoods. We continue to need volunteer help and hope that you will consider volunteering your time and talents. You can contact us by email at firstname.lastname@example.org or send us mail at P.O. Box 25216, Durham, NC 27702-5216.

The first Annual Owners Meeting of the Durham Central Market co-op will be held on Sunday, October 25, at a location to be announced. A potluck is planned along with the business meeting. At the meeting, owners will receive a progress report on the store's development, consider any non-binding questions, and elect the next board of directors. The current board hopes to receive your vote of support. Anyone wishing to put forth his or her name for consideration on the board should contact Robin Arcus, at email@example.com , for submission details.
Alisha Arneth will be exhibiting her paintings at the DCM office - 538 Foster Street - during Durham's 3rd Friday Art Event on August 21st. If you're downtown, stop in and check out the art and say hello. If you're on Facebook, you can RSVP the event here.

If you missed the film Food, Inc. at Full Frame this year, you can catch it at the Carolina Theater in Downtown Durham for one more week. Showtimes are 7:30 and 9:15pm nightly with weekend matinees at 2:10 and 4:15pm.
Food, Inc. is an illuminating account of where our food comes from these days. It features authors high on the DCM reading list – Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma) and Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation). So, if you are interested enough in what you eat to read this website, it’ll be well worth your time.
Durham Central Market was well-represented at this year's Eno River Festival. Our new bumper stickers were on sale - more to follow about how to procure a bumper sticker for yourself!! We spoke with current owners, and added some new owners to our ranks.
Our monthly volunteer orientation will be held from 6:00 pm to 6:30 on Tuesday, July 7, at our office at 538 Foster Street. If you're interested in volunteering, please stop by and learn how you can be involved.
Thanks to all the DCM owners and friends who came out to Durham Central Park on Memorial Day. The event was bookended by rain, but the blue sky appeared right on cue. Wonderful music, good food, and a great time. Check out the gallery for more pictures.
